FOOD Denmark is a research school within food science and technology with industrial support. FOOD covers all aspect of food science, food technology, consumer science and human nutrition.

The primary goal of FOOD Denmark is to be the leader in PhD-education in food related research in Denmark by providing a portal for PhD students, their supervisors and educational institutions.

FOOD Denmark collaborates with industry and the public sector in order to provide relevant PhD-training and to obtain funding to ensure an increasing number of PhD graduates. FOOD Denmark initiates interdisciplinary and cross-institutional cooperation in Denmark and internationally. As an organiser of relevant PhD-courses, FOOD Denmark opens up for transnational cooperation and actively pursues funding from international agencies.

FOOD Denmark is part of the Centre for Advanced Food Studies (LMC), and administration of the research school is taken care of by the LMC secretariat. LMC's central position in the Danish food sciences provides a unique basis for ensuring width and depth in the research education. The industry is ensured influence in the research school through a seat in the FOOD Denmark management group.

In the past, FOOD Denmark provided co-financed scholarships to PhD-students at the universities within the LMC organisation – in most cases, industry co-funded these scholarships and the individual PhD scholars were then educated in collaboration between the enrolling university and the financing company. However, due to a change in the funding strategy of the research councils under the auspices of the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation, FOOD Denmark no longer offers this opportunity.
