FOOD Denmark PhD Congress 2011

The theme of the third FOOD Denmark PhD Congress was 'How to obtain high quality healthy foods in different settings'. You can download the congress programme here (pdf-file), and the abstract volume here (pdf-file).

Student awards

Awards were presented to three PhD students - one for the best oral presentation, one for the overall best poster and one for the most innovative poster.

Receivers of awards were selected by the congress participants and the evaluation committee consisting of Astrid Bork Andersen, COOP Trading A/S, Claus Adam Jarløv, GlobalDenmark, and Charlotte Jacobsen, Head of FOOD Denmark and professor at the Technical University of Denmark.

Several congress participants submitted both a poster and an oral presentation. FOOD Denmark congratulates the awardees and thank all the congress participants for their hard work put into preparing and presenting their work.

Best oral presentation

The best oral presentation 'Crystallisation Mechanisms of Butter and Butter Blends During the Production Process' was given by Patrizia Buldo from Aarhus University. Patrizia was in particular praised for her ability to address a mixed audience so that both experts in her own field and non-experts were able to easily understand the presentation. Also, her powerpoint figures were highly educational and clearly demonstrated the main elements of her talk.

Best poster presentation

The overall best poster was presented by Yann Madode from Wageningen University. His poster was entitled 'Bacillus and Rhizopus fermentations reduce the flatulence inducing properties of Vigna unguiculata measured in-vitro'. The evaluation committee was particularly happy with his charming oral presentation of the poster which clearly explained poster contents.

Most innovative poster

Lars Klingenberg from the University of Copenhagen presented the most innovative poster, 'Effects of sleep restriction on energy balance in male adolescents', at the FOOD Denmark PhD Congress 2011. Lars had a very 'correct' poster but had chosen to add a photograph of one of his sleeping study objects which added an element of surprise and attraction.
